Your CoverKids CHIP Member Benefits

Renaissance provides dental coverage to CoverKids CHIP members, a free, comprehensive health plan for qualifying Tennessee children ages 18 and younger and pregnant women. It covers preventive health services, doctor visits, hospital visits, vaccinations, well-child visits, developmental screenings and mental health. Children also get vision and dental care.

Prevention

  • Oral exams (every six months)
  • Teeth cleaning (every six months )
  • X-rays
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Sealants (age requirements apply)

Treatments

  • Extractions (teeth removal )

What should I do in case of a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is a service needed to control bleeding, relieve pain, get rid of acute infection, prevent loss of teeth, and treat injuries. If a dental emergency happens, call your dental office and ask what you should do. If the emergency is life threatening, call 911.

If you currently do not have a dental home, call Renaissance customer service at 866-864-2526 (TTY 711) or go use our find a dentist online search portal to find a dentist near you. If you are calling after hours, call 866-864-2526 for helpful recorded information and connection to our emergency service if needed.

If you are not in Tennessee when a dental emergency happens, you can make a toll-free call 24/7 to Renaissance’s customer service at 866-864-2526 for help finding a dentist. TennCare covers emergency dental services for TennCare members. If you have a dental emergency, call your dental home and ask what you should do. Your dentist might have a different after-hours phone number.

Virtual visits delivered by TeleDentistry.com.

Renaissance Dental members can access TeleDentistry.com*. These virtual visits are a safe and effective way to receive dental care and avoid the emergency room.

Consider a virtual visit when you:

  • Have a dental emergency and do not have a dental home.
  • Need access to a dentist after hours if your dentist is not available.
  • Need to consult a dentist while traveling and you don’t have a dentist.

Teledentistry is already included in your existing dental coverage.

*TeleDentistry.com services are available to current TennCare Dental plans administered by Renaissance users. TeleDentistry.com is considered to be a “problem-focused exam” (shown as a D0140 procedure code on your Explanation of Benefits).

Keep Your Coverage

Your CoverKids CHIP benefits help you stay healthy—and we want to help you keep them. Every year, the state checks to make sure you still qualify for benefits. This is called renewal or redetermination.

You might get a letter, email, or text from TennCare asking you to verify your information or fill out some forms. It’s important to respond—if you don’t, you could lose your coverage even if you still qualify.
